History of PGI
|
||||||||||||||||||
| 1993 | Professional
Geologists of Indiana incorporated on April 20, 1993, to enhance
unity and professionalism in the geological community. One of
PGI’s goals was to represent the interests of Certified Professional
Geologists (later changed to Licensed Professional Geologists,
or LPGs). |
| 1994 | About 115 geologists joined as Charter Members in 1994. PGI supported legislation creating the Licensed Professional Geologist (LPG) statute that established a multiyear rule-making, licensing, and grand-fathering process. |
| 1996 | The
PGI Geology Standard, PGI’s rejuvenated newsletter, and
its valorous voice, was initiated under the direction of Robert
Dyer. |
| 1997 | John
R. Barnhart created PGI’s first web page. |
| 1997 | Al
Witty organized our first field trip with a three-day trip/seminar
to examine and discuss Silurian reefs in northeastern Indiana.
PGI’s field trips have evolved into an annual series held in cooperation
with a different university geology department each year. |
| 1998 | PGI
awarded its first Lifetime Achievement Award to Carl B. Rexroad,
establishing the annual recognition of exemplary professionalism
during the recipient’s career. Henry H. Gray, Norman C. Hester,
and Charles E. Wier were honored with PGI’s Distinguished Service
Awards. |
| 1999 | PGI,
the Center for Earth and Environmental Science at IUPUI, and the
Indiana Geological Survey co-sponsored the annual meeting of the
Eastern Section of American Association of Petroleum Geologists
in Indianapolis . The Lifetime Achievement Award went to James
R. Harris; Distinguished Service Awards went to John B. Droste,
Robert L. Dyer, and Jack A. Sunderman; Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to James T. Cazee and Loretta Roller. |
| 2000 | PGI co-hosted several important meetings including the Geological Society of America North-Central Section meeting and Indiana Geology Expo 2000. |
| 2001 | More history to come. |
